What We Do

SubTela’s main research interest is the development of intelligent cloth structures for the creation of artistic, performative and functional textiles.

These fabrics incorporate microcomputers and sensors to create surfaces that are receptive and responsive to external stimuli. Recent explorations feature an array of Light Emitting Diodes that present changing patterns and texts through the structure of cloth. Wireless transmission systems are also being incorporated to support real time communication.

The subTela Research Team is:

Diane Morin
Hesam Khoshneviss
Maryam Golshayan
Matthew Biederman
Meghan Price
and is led by:
Barbara Layne

Hi,

I´m interested in having a garment of 150×70 cms, completly flexible, as a cloth, with a thread of aproximately 4 mm and with and array of 1×1 cms, for having dinamic messages. It doesn´t mind the material of the garment: PA, PP, etc.

The messages must remaing fix and change each 5 minutes.

The garment must work outside, with it´s natural conditions of sun, rain, snow, temperature, humidity.

Do you have any mature technology to do it in a short term?

I´m reading lumalive, from Phillips, and other novelty applications, like nanotubes.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Manuel
