White Wall Hanging. 2007
This wall hanging was created as part of a workshop project led by subTela team members at the Valand Academy of Art and Högskolan för Design och Konsthantverkin in Goteborg, Sweden. Participants learned to weave fabric strips embedded with LEDs that could be worn on the wrist. When brought to the wall hanging, the strips interact with the larger textile, triggering different designs in the LED array. The LED display is woven into the fabric with 256 pattern possibiliities.
The project considers the relationship between intimate textiles that are worn on the body, and when brough together, how the possibilities for a community textile in an interactive, social space.
