Lucere is a wall hanging in which a jacquard structure is used to create a subtle, white-on-white landscape. It is based on an original image of a tornado with two lightning bolts photographed by storm chaser, Mike Hollingshead (Nebraska). A microcontroller and sonic sensor have been woven into the fabric to create a cloth that is receptive and responsive to external stimuli.
When triggered by the viewer, an array of light emitting diodes is activated in a glowing pattern of light that is suggestive of the distant illumination known as “heat-lightning”.
